Sponsor 1 of my 26 miles to help raise funds to combat the
famine crisis in East Africa

As some of you know, I've been planning for some time now to run the
Bank of America Chicago marathon on October 9th.  After running this same race last year, and running the Boston Marathon back in April, Chicago was the next step towards my goal of qualifying for the Olympic Trials.  However, what I had not anticipated was my overwhelming concern with the current crisis in Somalia.

I'm currently seeking sponsors for each of my 26 miles of the 2011 Bank of America Chicago Marathon to raise funds to combat the famine crisis in East Africa.  According to the United Nations, more than 12 million people need food aid in the Horn of Africa.  In Somalia, where the situation is the most dire, the U.N. says as many as 3.2 million people are estimated to be on the brink of starvation.  In early August a report found that 29,000 Somali children under the age of 5 had died in the last 90 days from the famine. The region has had no rain in 2 years, witnessed a huge spike in food prices and been going through a civil war. The Dadaab complex in eastern Kenya, has become the largest refugee camp in the world.  They need your support to stay alive.

Each sponsor will pledge to raise $100 for their specific mile by the race date of October 9th to reach the 26.2 for HOPE Marathon Team goal of $2,600.  A sponsor could be an individual, company, family, school, team, office or any entity that seeks to help the cause.  I will be making my contributions through UNICEF but sponsors will get to choose the specific organization of their choice to combat the crisis.  100% of the proceeds go towards the organization of the sponsor's choice.  Time is of the essence, so sponsors are encouraged to submit their funds at any time.  A list of the organizations, their descriptions and a step by step process of how to contribute is under the HELP tab.  Please contact me at [email protected] or 772-521-1230 to become a sponsor or if you intend to make an individual contribution to the cause.  Check the SPONSORS tab for a list of the available mile numbers to sponsor.  If you wish to sponsor, just contact me and provide your sponsor team name and which available mile you wish to sponsor.  I will reserve your specific mile.  Our community can really make a difference in the world if we step up to the line and fight for this good cause.                                                                                                                                                                                                          Thank you,
                                                                                                                                                                                       Matt Hensley
